Ferret Issue, Please help!?

My male ferret about a year old has redish wax coming out of only one of his ears. So i think its bloody wax. I tried washing it off gently, but it irritated him and it never came off, its really stuck to his fur and it smells like blood and earwax. i let him be, And the next day he had more out of his ear. it looks really gross, and he keeps squeeking in pain and hes not as playfull. I'm pretty sure hes eating and drinking because when i wake up most of his food is gone & water. But i'm REALLY worried, i love this ferret and i don't have enough money to take him to the vet. Could this be really serious? I'm really worried.
